River City Rivalry: #20 Pitt vs #19 Cincy
After Friday's game, Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly stated,"If that place doesn’t have 500,000 people in it, I’m going to be pissed." He was referring to this Saturday's game against Big East rival Pittsburgh. Cincinnati fans have showed up in numbers over 30,000 for the last three home games at Nippert Stadium, which holds 35,097. Last season, Cincy had three sellout crowds, but this year it hasn't happened yet. The Bearcats are 8-2 and ranked #19 in the country, so coach Kelly has the right to be upset if the biggest game in school history doesn't sellout. Cincinnati is coming off three straight wins over South Florida, West Virginia, and Louisville and look to beat Pitt on Saturday for the first time in school history. The Bearcats are just two wins away from a Big East Championship and a BCS bowl.
The Panthers and Bearcats both have explosive offenses to display on Saturday. Pitt uses the run more, with the sensational sophomore running back LeSean McCoy. He has rushed for 1,043 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. If Pittsburgh wants to put up alot of points on the tough defense of Cincinnati, they will have to use the pass as a distraction to set up the rushing game.
The Bearcats look to do what they have done all season offensively, and that is to pass. QB Tony Pike and WR Mardy Gilyard hooked up once again last week on a 48-yard touchdown pass, which was their sixth this season. Also, John Goebol has been playing great the last three weeks with two touchdowns and 169 yards rushing.
There are three reasons why Cincinnati will win: special teams, defense, and the home field advantage.
Prediction: Cincy 24, Pitt 14
